Update from the HWHL Dental Committee:
HWHL is very excited about establisihing a Dental Clinic at the Waterfield Primary Health Care Center (WPHCC) in Kakata, Liberia to serve a people in great need of dental services. Dr. Duane Spaulding, a former HWHL Board member and now currently on the Advisory Board, is coordinating efforts with C.U.R.E. to establish the dental clinic at WPHCC.
A 23 ft 3 in x 10 ft 4 in dental room was constructed at the Center with two counter sinks and a space for an air conditioner and two dental chairs.
Because of the lack of dental professionals in Liberia, Project C.U.R.E will install the equipment, with the understanding that training of local staff be factored into their installation process.
Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia was given a $15,000 grant from Methodist Hospital in Memphis to set up the dental clinic and/or to provide initial salaries.
Dr. Chris Hena is currently searching for dentists to provide dental care at the Waterfield Center. The possibility of dentists serving on a rotational basis is also being considered.
