God is Working Through Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia!
So much has transpired at the Waterfield Medical Center in the last quarter. We were honored with a visit from former president Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Painting has been completed on the new Maternity and Surgery Clinics; they are now fully air conditioned and we’ve begun stocking the necessary supplies to make them fully operational this year. A new kitchen has been constructed to provide food to visitors to our canteen and our Community Health Workers are reaching more and more residents in the outlying villages in Margibi County. Join us in reviewing this quarter’s highlights.
Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Visits Waterfield
On January 4th, former Liberian President Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visited Waterfield Medical Center and spoke with our Community Health Workers. Madam Sirleaf served as president of Liberia in the post-war years of 2006 to 2018. She was the first female head of state of any African nation and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to further women’s rights. She may be 84, but she’s still going strong making a difference for women in Africa and around the world through the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development.
New Kitchen Completed
A much-needed new kitchen has been constructed to provide food for the Waterfield Canteen which serves guests, patients and staff. See photos below of the old kitchen (left) and the new structure that replaces it (right)!
First Mobility Carts Recipient
Last quarter we introduced you to Mobility Worldwide which has designed hand-cranked mobility carts that allow physically challenged people to go where ordinary wheelchairs won’t go. We wanted to share with you photos of our first recipient of a mobility cart. What a life-changing tool for this gentleman!
Community Health Workers Distribute Books
Our Community Health Workers continue to reach out to the villages of Margibi County. Not only do they provide medical instruction and support, but recently they have been distributing books received from Barrels of Love to village schools and orphanages.
