We completed our 10th year since the founding of Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and we are looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us in the next 10 years and beyond. In those 10 years Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia has grown from a tent, to a shed, and now the Waterfield Primary Healthcare Center. WPHCC provides a growing list of services including primary preventative care, prenatal care, dental care, eye care, pharmacy, laboratory, ultrasound, EKGs, a canteen, community outreach and more. Our Community Health Workers are now traveling to 37 villages in Margibi County to provide medical and hygiene training, provide prenatal and worm medications, take blood pressures and provide referrals when necessary. We are blessed beyond measure as we live Christ’s Great Commandment by loving and caring for our neighbors in Liberia.
New Maternity/Surgical Center funded by Waterfield Family!
According to the UNICEF report on “Child, Maternal and Newborn Health”, Liberia has one of the world’s highest rates of maternal mortality. One out of every ten women dies while pregnant, giving birth to their babies or in the aftermath of delivery. When a mother dies, the likelihood of her baby dying increases. We are overjoyed to announce that the construction of the Maternity & Surgical addition to our Waterfield Primary Healthcare Center has been fully funded by the Waterfield family and that construction will begin in the first quarter of 2022. We will greatly appreciate your donations so that we will be able to furnish this new building with the necessary medical equipment to make it fully operational.
Van Purchased for Community Health Workers
A much needed newer van has been purchased to allow our Community Healthy Workers to reach the 37 villages they serve. Our old van was beyond repair and in need of replacement. The replacement 2015 Chevy van has only 2,600 miles! It will be loaded with supplies and shipped to Liberian in the first quarter. Thanks to all our loyal supporters who made this purchase possible.
NMedical Supplies Shipped for CH Rennie Hospital
In our last newsletter we mentioned that the CH Rennie government hospital near our Waterfield Primary Healthcare Center had burned. Since then HWHL has coordinated the shipment of 236 boxes of medical supplies, hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs and more from Through These Hands to help this regional hospital get reopened and serving Margibi County residents.
